Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved a 130-km long Jeypore-Malkangiri New Line project that is likely to be completed by 2021-22.

The cost is estimated at Rs 2676.11 crore and the project will cover the districts of Koraput and Malkangiri and connect Malkangiri, Boipariguda, Tanginiguda, Mathili, Pondripani Road and other major towns to Jeypore station on the existing Kottavalasa-Kirandul line.

Besides improving connectivity to important towns like Koraput, Jeypore, Jagdalpur and Dantewara, the proposed new line will also reduce the travel time between many other places of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

The new line will provide basic infrastructure support for overall development of the left wing extremism (LWE)-affected Malkangiri and Koraput districts.
Not only the project will help in combating LWE but will also generate direct employment for many people.
