Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Taking an initiative to reduce examination period and to give teachers extra time to check answer sheets, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is likely to hold Class 10 and 12 Annual Examinations on the same dates in two shifts – morning and afternoon.

As per a report published in the Hindustan Times, the board after taking suggestions from principals of schools situated in New Delhi and nearby cities will prepare a final plan after which it will be reviewed by the panels committees of the CBSE.

The two exams are usually held from March 1 that runs close to 45 days because of a muster of subjects and separate time-tables for the two classes. The plan to set common dates for both exams is likely to decrease the overall duration of the finals, the report further stated.

The reduced number of exam days will give evaluators more time to check the answer-scripts of students before the results are declared in May.

More than a million students wrote the Class 12 exam this year.

The CBSE has drawn criticism for its evaluation system as several students in Odisha and other states had complained about variation in marks.

Some students of Class 12, who had appeared their board exam in Odisha this year, complained of their results being kept withheld for no reason, while others raised voice over faulty evaluation of answer sheets.

The board however clarified that the possibility of human error cannot be ruled out in calculating the marks, putting them on answer-scripts and feeding them manually in computers.

It has also been suggested that the board should ask students to suggest teachers who could be good evaluators. Another suggestion is to increase the remuneration of evaluators, at least by 20 percent, and to set a figure as to how many copies they need to check.
