Bhawanipatna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today launched a probe into irregularities worth more than Rs 1 crore fraud made at three post offices in Kalahandi and conducted raids at different places since last night.

Complaints were filed with the central investigating agency alleging irregularities at the Boria post office in Kesinga, Pastikudi post office and Kalahandi district post office.

Kalahandi district post office superintendent Padmanabha Das said, "The irregularities were found after a financial audit of the three post offices." However, the official assured that depositors’ money is safe.

He informed Kabiraj Harijan, post master of the district post office, has been suspended for his alleged involvement in the fraud and a letter has been written to the administration recommending seizure of Harijan's movable and immovable property.

Expressing apprehension, depositor Biswamitra Swain said, "If a government-run office can dupe depositors, who can we trust?"
