Bhubaneswar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids at nine place, including three in the state, where tainted chit fund firm Shastra was running its business.

According to reports, the three premises in the state raided by the central investigating team were in Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and Baripada.

Besides, the probe agency also conducted raids in Chennai, Tripura and Madurai where the dubious chit fund firm had duped gullible investors in the name of higher returns through its different schemes.

The agency hoeps it would be able to find more details about the monetary transactions of the company during the raid. The company has duped more than Rs 150 crore from the investors of Odisha, mostly from Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

Notably, V Sampath, the head of Shastra chit fund company, is presently lodged in Bargarh jail.
