Cuttack: Odisha Crime Branch (CB) has started an investigation on chit fund links of mining trader Pravanjan Mohanty. While CB is planning to take Mohanty on remand, he will be interrogated in both forgery and chit fund case informed Special DG of Crime Branch BK Sharma today.

Mohanty, the managing director of JBS Mineral and Overseas firm, was found to be working as Director of Sanchaya Infraprojects Limited, a chit fund company situated in Bhubaneswar. A fraud case had been registered against four persons of the company including Mohanty. While one among them had been arrested, all others are absconding since 2013.

Earlier on Monday, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch arrested Mohanty in connection with a Rs 4.5 crore bank fraud.

As per reports, Mohanty took loan from a bank by showing forged land documents as collateral. He allegedly deposited the land documents of three different persons by forging their signature. Out of the three, one is already dead but Mohanty showed him alive in the documents.

The Orissa High Court had ordered immediate action against the accused after being approached in this regard.
