Bargarh: A Rajasthan based-textile industry landed in a trouble after a case was lodged at Bargarh police station against it for allegedly making counterfeit Sambalpuri sarees.

The major saree manufacturer -Bharat Mohan Industries- is facing the charge under Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 (GI Act) for its alleged illegal work.

A team of weavers from the district, which lodged the complaint, alleged that the unit is manufacturing and selling the counterfeit Sambalpuri sarees.

Bargarh SDPO Suresh Nayak, who is investigating the case, assured of action against the erring unit after an inquiry.  “The case is being investigation. Action will be taken against the company if found guilty”, he said.

Upendra Kumar Debata, Assistant Director of Textiles department, said DSP has assured of taking appropriate action against the unit after investigation.

Notably, Ministry of Textiles earlier had constituted a team over such an allegation. The team had carried out raids at various places in the district and found that Bharat Mohan Industries is supplying counterfeit printed Sambalpuri sarees to Bargarh market.
