Bhubaneswar: As the Modi wave is all set to descend on Odisha with the streets of the capital city dressed up in saffron, the BJD seems to have maintained an uneasy calm. Though the party plans to celebrate the death anniversary of Biju Patnaik on April 17, it seems to have started making efforts to retain visibility and make some noise about its event at all levels amidst saffron surge.

The  posters of the conch declaring the death anniversary observation have been vying for visibility amidst the larger than life Narendra Modi and Amit Shah cutouts.

Many observers believe the ruling party will use the occasion as a platform to balance some of the effects of the BJP’s national executive meet here that will witness huge participation of union ministers and party leaders.

“PM Narendra Modi’s objective to make Odisha a lab for pro-poor schemes after this executive meet has definitely spread apprehension within the ruling-BJD,” said BJP’s Sameer Mohanty.

“Our program on Biju Babu’s death anniversary has no relationship with BJP’s convention. One cannot change the fact that the death anniversary falls on April 17 every year and one cannot say that the BJP’s meet so close to this date will have any adverse effect on us either,” said BJD spokesperson, Pratap Deb.
