Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday reduced fares for all categories of passenger buses as per the automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fares for Ordinary and Express buses have been reduced by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fares for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses have been slashed by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this cut coming into effect, the fare for Ordinary buses will now be 58 paise per km as against 59 paise per km earlier while the fare for Express buses has been slashed to 61 paise from 62 paise per km.

After today’s decrease in the fares, deluxe category buses will now charge 80 paise per km as against 82 paise earlier while commuters travelling in AC Deluxe buses will have to fork out Rs 1.01 instead of the current Rs 1.03 paise per km, the notification added.

This is for the fourth time this year that the state government has reduced the bus fares. The state government had reduced bus fares on January 21, July 1 and August 1.
