Bus fares hiked in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Two days after a hike in the price of diesel, the Odisha government on Wednesday increased fares for all categories of passenger buses as per the automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fares for Ordinary and Express buses have been hiked by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fares for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses have been hiked by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this hike coming into effect, the fare for Ordinary buses will now be 59 paise per km as against 58 paise per km earlier while the fare for Express buses will be 62 paise from 61 paise per km.

After today’s hike in the fares, deluxe category buses will now charge 82 paise per km as against 80 paise earlier while commuters travelling in AC Deluxe buses will have to fork out Rs 1.03 instead of the current Rs 1.01 paise per km, the notification added.

With today’s hike in bus fares, the state government has increased the bus fares for the fourth time on January 21, March 10, May 3 and June 2 this year.

Notably, the oil companies had hiked the price of petrol by Rs 3.38 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.67 a litre on August 31.
