Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday increased fares for all categories of passenger buses as per automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fare for ordinary and express buses has been increased by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fare for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses has been increased by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this hike coming into effect, the fare for ordinary buses will now be 59 paise per km as against 58 paise per km earlier while the fare of express buses has been increased to 62 paise from 61 paise per km.

Similarly, deluxe category buses will now charge 82 paise per km as against 80 paise earlier and commuters travelling in AC Deluxe buses have to fork out Rs 1.03 instead of the current Rs 1.01 paise per km, the notification added.

This is the fourth time this year that the state government has hiked the bus fare. The fare was hiked on March 10, 19 and again on May 3.
