Bhubaneswar: Four days after a hike in the diesel price, the Odisha government today increased fares for all categories of passenger buses as per the automatic fare adjustment mechanism.

As per a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport department, the fares for Ordinary and Express buses have been hiked by 1 paisa per kilometre, while fares for Deluxe and AC Deluxe category buses have been hiked by 2 paise per kilometre.

With this hike coming into effect, the fare for Ordinary buses will now be 60 paise per km as against 59 paise per km earlier while the fare for Express buses will be 63 paise from 62 paise per km.

After today’s hike in the fares, deluxe category buses will now charge 84 paise per km as against 82 paise earlier while AC Deluxe buses will charge Rs 1.05 instead of the current Rs 1.03 paise per km, the notification added.

With today’s hike in bus fares, the state government has increased the bus fares for the seventh time this year.

Notably, the oil companies had hiked diesel price by Rs 1.79 per litre on December 16.
