Brown sugar worth Rs 30 lakh in Cuttack

Cuttack: The flying squad of Excise department on Monday seized 280 grams of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 30 lakh following raids at two places in Cuttack.

Two drug peddlers from Aradabazar area in Balasore have also been arrested in this connection. The accused have been identified as Sk Sahid (30) and Jada Soren (24) and two motorcycles have also been seized from their possession.

According to reports, Sahid was nabbed after a raid near OMP square while Soren was arrested from Jobra barrage chhak.

“We had formed two special teams after getting an input that two drug peddlers will be delivering the brown sugar consignment to some agents in Cuttack,” said Excise sub-inspector, Hitanshu Sekhar.

Sekhar further informed that efforts are on to ascertain the source of procurement of the narcotics and disposal point as the involvement of a major racket is suspected behind the illicit trade.
