Balasore: Police on Tuesday arrested a man from Sunahata area under Town police limits of the district for allegedly carrying 20 grams brown sugar worth over Rs 2 lakhs.
Acting on a tip off, the excise officials intercepted the 42-year-old man who was carrying 20 grams of brown sugar and arrested him from Madhunil Chhak here in the afternoon.
Later, a case was registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and he was forwarded to court.
“The approximate value of the contraband would be around Rs 2 lakh. The accused was court forwarded. Further investigation is on,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, investigation is on to trace other persons in the area as police suspect more hands in the contraband racket, sources said.
