Brown sugar worth Rs 21 lakh seized in Khurda; 1 arrested

Khurda: A joint team of Excise officials and police late last night seized 105 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 21 lakh from Christiansahi in the town and arrested one person after a raid.

The sleuths also seized Rs 58,000 cash from possession of the arrested person, identified as Brundaban Pradhan.

Sources said Pradhan will be quizzed to elicit details on the network involved in brown sugar trade.

In recent past, brown sugar trade has increased in Khurda following which Excise personnel conducted searches in the area several times.

On December 25, the flying squad of Excise department seized 280 grams of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 30 lakh after raids at two places in Cuttack.

Two drug peddlers from Aradabazar area in Balasore were also arrested in this connection. Two motorcycles have also been seized from their possession.
