Balasore: In a major crackdown on the illegal drug smuggling in Jaleswar, Sadar police today raided two villages in Balasore district and seized over 20 grams of brown sugar and 50 kg ganja worth more than Rs 2 lakhs.

According to sources, a special police team raided one Salima Bibi's house in Sekhbad village under Jaleswar block at around 6pm today morning and seized more than 20 grams of brown sugar, the cost of which was estimated to be around Rs 2 lakh.

Later, the police raided another person, Gopal Singh's house in Karihanda village from whom they were able to seize 50kg Ganja worth nearly Rs 50,000.

According to police sources, both the accused have been arrested and taken to Balasore for further investigation.

Acting as per the directions of Balasore Excise Department, a team comprising Sadar Excise Inspector Karunakar Tiwari, Sub-Inspector Haraprasad and other police personnel raided the houses of the two accused and seized drugs in large quantity.

"A special team was formed to raid various places in the Jaleswar area. Two persons were arrested from two different villages. Around 20 gms of brown sugar was seized from Salima Bibi's house in Sekhbad village, while 50 kg ganja was seized from Gopal Singh’s house in Karihanda village. Both of them have been arrested and are being taken to Balasore,” said Tiwari.
