Bride calls off marriage with drunken groom

Rourkela: A girl cancelled her marriage after her fiancé turned up along with 'baratis' drunk and allegedly misbehaved and thrashed her family members on wedding day.

Such a bizarre incident was reported in steel city Rourkela on Sunday.

According to reports, the groom and his friends had reportedly arrived for the wedding drunk.

The groom even vomited and reportedly thrashed the bride's father, mother and brother over poor arrangements and food.

Following the incident, the bride lodged a complaint at Tangarpalli police station.

"I want justice for such humiliation as my father and other family members were misbehaved and assaulted," said the complainant girl.

However, the groom, who has been detained in connection with the incident, refuted to have attacked the bride's family.

"My friends had spiked my drink and they had actually created ruckus. I have already apologized the girl and her family members," said the groom.

Inspector-in-charge of Tangarpalli police station, Manoranjan Pradhan said that already two persons including the groom have been detained based on the complaint filed by bride's family and investigation in this connection is underway.

In the latest development, the bride and the groom exchanged garlands at the Tangarapalli police station following intervention from some social activists and families of both the sides.
