Kendrapara: The vigilance wing of state police today arrested the medical officer of Government-run Rajkanika Community Health Centre in Kendrapara district while demanding and accepting monetary gratification of Rs 2, 000 from a cab operator.

The accused Dr. Ajit Das was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe amount from the complainant Ramya Ranjan Rout. The official had demanded bribe for release of payment of taxing hiring charges.

Harassed over extortion tactics, the complainant had informed the vigilance sleuths. Accordingly a trap was laid. The accused official caught red-handed while receiving demanded amount in his official residence.

When the complainant handed over the chemical- coated currencies to the accused at the pre-determined spot, the sleuths had caught him.

The bribe-taking Medical Officer was booked under various provisions of prevention of corruption act. He would be remanded to judicial custody later tomorrow, said vigilance Cuttack Division officials.

His movable and immovable assets have also come under our scanner. Simultaneous raids are being conducted in various places to ascertain whether the property owned by him was disproportionate to his legitimate sources of income, they added.
