Braveheart girl thwarts abduction bid

Bhubaneswar: With incidents of crime against women on rise in Odisha, a girl today set an example by fending off a daylight kidnapping bid in the smart city.

According to reports, the girl staying at a working women’s hostel at Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar displayed extraordinary courage in fighting off a miscreant who attacked and tried to abduct her.

According to sources, the girl who works at a software company was attacked just minutes after she had arrived at her hostel.

The entire act was captured in the CCTV camera which revealed that a motorcycle-borne youth wearing helmet approached her and tried to kidnap her on knife point.

Despite being overpowered by the miscreant, the girl did not give in and countered him. Following resistance, the miscreant pushed her aside and escaped from the spot on his motorcycle.

The girl has lodged a complaint with Sahid Nagar police station in connection with the incident.

“A case has been registered in connection with the incident. Preliminary investigation reveals that it was not a snatching bid as the girl was not wearing or carrying any valuables. We are examining the CCTV footage to ascertain the exact motive,” said DCP Satyabrat Bhoi.

Though the motive behind the attack is yet to be established, the incident which took place during day time and that too in a populated area has raised concerns over safety of women in Bhubaneswar.
