Angul: A day after a 3-year-old girl, Radha, was rescued from a deep borewell at Gulasar village in the district, Angul lift irrigation executive engineer today submitted probe report on the matter to the district collector. The report blames the borewell agency and local junior engineer for the incident.

In the report, the executive engineer has blamed the Chhattisgarh based Ganesh Borewell Agency for negligence in duty and also the local junior engineer of Kishorenagar for dereliction in duties.

The report said that the deep borewell was dug under Biju Krushak Vikas Yojana 2016-17 by employees of Ganesh Borewell Agency but after the work was completed the hole was left open.

Santosh Sahu’s 3-year-old daughter Radha was rescued by firemen of Bamur and Angul division after nearly seven-and-half hours of rescue operation. A parallel hole of 15/16ft depth was dug 6ft away fm the borewell. Then a tunnel was dug to connect to the borewell and fortunately, Radha was recovered alive after a fireman went into the hole and rescued her. She was later rushed to Angul hospital.

Doctors treating Radha said she has been kept under 24-hr observation and will be discharged after her health is completely stable.

Lauding the efforts of fire personnel, district administration, police and ODRAF for the successful rescue of Radha from the borewell, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to twitter and wrote “Commend @angul_dm, firemen, police, ODRAF & good samaritans for successful rescue of Radha from borewell in Angul district. The feat could only be achieved by excellent teamwork. Acts like these inspire public confidence in Govt machinery. Praying for little one's speedy recovery.”
