Bhubaneswar: After facing criticism for allowing Panda Infra Project to continue with the construction of the Bomikhal flyover work, Odisha government is now mulling to bar the contractor from executing the pending construction works.

Works Secretary Nalini Kanta Pradhan on Monday informed that the recent mishap at Bomikhal flyover construction site in which one labourer was killed is an 'unexcusable crime' committed on part of the concerned contractor as no step was taken for preventing such incidents even after the first mishap last year.

"After chief engineer submits a detailed report, we will take further action. We are expecting the report in a day or two," said Pradhan.

Pradhan further informed that only as work to the tune of nearly Rs 4 to 5 crore is pending, efforts will be taken to complete the bridge construction project in the next two to three months.

The tender to complete the balance work will be either awarded to another contractor or may be taken up by the department itself. A final decision will be taken after consideration of all aspects and getting detailed report, Pradhan added.

Reacting on the recent Bomikhal flyover mishap, Pradhan said that the State government will not repeat its mistake of handing over the contract to the same contractor who was not cautious even after the first mishap.

"Every component including safety of the bridge and quality of the work done will be checked by a third party prior to the inauguration of the Bomikhal project," Pradhan added.
