Bhubaneswar: With student elections round the corner, palpable tension was observed in BJB College in Bhubaneswar after a bomb was hurled into the college campus. According to sources, a crude bomb was thrown into the college campus from outside, following which, the students of the college staged a ruckus demonstration in front of the principal’s office.

Following information, Bargarh police reached the college and inspected the spot. Meanwhile, college authorities have said that if the tension prevails, they will take a call on the upcoming polls.

“Some miscreants have hurled a cracker bomb in a bid to terrorize the students. This is being done by people who don’t want elections or are scared of getting defeated in the elections,” said student Lagnajit Patra.

“Each and every activity including studies should be carried out in a democratic way. We have called the police and after consultation we will deeply investigate the matter,” said BJB college principal Nawaz Hasan.

Similarly, pre-poll violence broke out in Mahapurush Hadidas College in Chatia of Jajpur district as two groups clashed over student elections resulting in ransacking and arson. According to sources, while a group of students are in support of the elections, another group of students have been opposing the polls. As fallout of the conflict, a group of students today ransacked the admission section of college and resorted to arson. While fire tending officials reached the spot to douse the flames, Police had to disperse the irate students. Following the incident, the local tehsildar visited the spot and held discussions with the students and college authorities.
