Sambalpur: At a time when the state government is making tall claims of increasing sex ratio, frequent instances of newborn girls being abandoned reveals the ground reality.

According to sources, the body of a newborn girl was found in a drain near the Town police station swimming pool here this morning. However, the whereabouts and who abandoned the newborn is yet to be ascertained.

Police are investigating in to the incident.

Earlier on April 23, a newborn girl was found abandoned on the outskirts of Khandara village in Hinjili area of Ganjam district. Another recent incident of an infant being buried alive in compost dump at Shyamsundarpur in Jajpur district had created much hue and cry in the state
