Cuttack: Body of a Class XI student, who had gone missing since January 25, was recovered today near the Seashore ghat at Mahanadi river bank.

The deceased, identified as Nisith Mohanty, was studying Class XI at DAV School located in CDA area of the city.

Nisith’s identity could be ascertained from a bag and I-card apart form a bus ticket lying on the river bank near the Seashore ghat.

Alok Mohanty, uncle of the deceased, said, "From my younger brother and father of Nisith, I came to know that Nisith did not return home after attending coaching classes on January 25. We had lodged a missing complaint at Badamabadi police station in the evening on January 25 itself."

Mohanty with a gloomy voice stated, "We have come here to identify the body after getting a call from the police."

Cuttack SP Sitaram Satpathy who was overseeing the recovery of the body, said, "With the help of fire brigade personnel, the police have recovered the body from the Mahanadi river water. Initial examination shows the death might be due to drowning. However, a detailed probe can tell how and why Nisith got into the river water."
