Keonjhar: Body of an infant boy was recovered near Ramzan Hatching Canal in ward -6 under Joda police limits of Keonjhar on Wednesday.

According to reports, few women who had gone near the canal, spotted the baby alive and subsequently informed the local Anganwadi workers. However, by the time the Anganwadi workers reached the spot, the baby had died.

Later, the body of the infant was taken to hospital for post-mortem. According to sources, the baby was 7 months old.

The police have launched an investigation to trace the parents of the baby and establish the circumstances under which the infant was abandoned.

Earlier this month, a newborn baby boy was rescued near a pond in a farmland at Ria village under Parjang police limits of Dhenkanal district.

Similarly in March, an abandoned newborn girl was rescued by police near Siliamunda village at Pallahara of Angul district. Some locals had spotted the baby girl lying inside the bush near a pond and immediately alerted police.
