Bhubaneswar: Police today fished out the bodies of two  teenagers who earlier got drowned in the Mahanadi river near Rahama in Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Souri Rout (20) and his friend Siddhu Palai. Both of them had went missing after they were swept in the strong current of the river while taking a bath at around 11 am on Thursday. The incident had occurred at Ghosalpur ghat.

According to reports, the body of Souri was pulled to the shore first by police in the wee hours while subsequently the body of Siddhu was recovered few hours later.

Both Siddhu and Souri had gone to the river along with two other friends when the mishap occurred. Though a massive search operation was then launched by local police and rescue team of the fire services, the missing boys could not be traced till late evening yesterday.

Palpable tension had also prevailed in the region after the locals had blocked the Cuttack-Paradip road near Rahama.
