Berhampur: With the detection of first Dengue case, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Health department have swung into action to restrict the spread of the disease.

The civic body along with the district Health office has started cleanliness and sanitation drives on war-footing.

On the other hand, the Anganwadi workers are making door-to-door visits to sensitise the people about the killer disease. A team has also been pressed into service to create awareness through various drives at Sarani Bhandari Street near Bus Stand, from where the first case was reported on Thursday.

The team has also trained volunteers on various approaches and methods of the sensitisation programme.

ASHA workers have been engaged to make people aware of the symptoms, causes, prevention of dengue and the facilities available at various health centres in the city.

Over 74 dengue cases were reported in 2015, while the figure reached 392 in 2016. Apprehensive of further rise in the cases this year, the BMC and the Health department have intensified awareness and cleanliness drives in the city.
