Sonepur:  At a time when concerted efforts are being launched to prevent youngsters from falling prey to the Blue Whale challenge, a teacher in Sonepur claiming to have taken up the challenge on social media has triggered further concerns.

A picture of a bloodied arm with slits posted by Kashinath Meher, a teacher of a government school at Birmaharajpur in Sonepur district, has gone viral and raised eyebrows as it is being linked to one of the preliminary tasks in the online game Blue Whale game which has allegedly led to several suicides across the globe.

Moreover, on his Facebook page, Kashinath posted, ‘I am a burning player of this game. I am suggesting all my Fb friends dont dare to open the link from Fb, WhatsApp and any other social media (Sic).”

“I am receiving bunch of messages on my number to complete further tasks (Sic),” read Kashinath’s post on the social media.

When contacted, Kashinath refused to have taken up the Blue Whale Challenge and claimed that his posts were just to create awareness.

“I have no idea about the game. I just wanted to create awareness among students and others not to open any link or play the game. I had just downloaded the picture and posted on my Facebook page,” said Kashinath.

Meanwhile, Bargarh SP today in a public notice appealed parents to keep a close surveillance on their children so that they do not fall prey to the game.

Police have also asked general public to report whenever they find any person, teenager or students playing or forwarding links of the Blue Whale challenge through social media platforms.

Earlier, DGP RP Sharma had informed to conduct a detail review on the incidents of Blue Whale deaths reported so far in Odisha and come up with effective strategy to deal with the menance.
