Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police on Friday came up with an advisory for parents to prevent their children from falling prey to the online ‘Blue Whale’ challenge, which is allegedly leading to suicides among youngsters.

As per the guidelines, the cops have advised parents to use ‘parental control’ software to keep an eye on the online activities of their children.

This will help the guardians to easily scan through the browsing history as well as the key board strokes made by their children on their devices.

Besides, parents have also been asked to monitor their children’s activities on various social media platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook, Snapchat and limit apps usage and block sites promoting dangerous activities.

The Commissionerate Police in its guidelines have also advised people to recognize any behavioural changes in their children as they might develop suicidal thoughts particularly those who have taken up the challenge.

Earlier, Director General of Police KB Singh had instructed all superintendents of police to take steps for removal of Blue Whale game from social media.

The move came after a Class 10 girl in Dhanakauda of Sambalpur district committed suicide on August 23 which is suspected to have links with the online Blue Whale challenge.
