Bhubaneswar: The agitating western Odisha teachers of block grant schools and colleges today celebrated Nuakhai on the road at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar. With their high-level meeting with the State government officials ending inconclusive, the teachers were left with no choice but to observe the festival on the road.

The strike of the block grant teachers entered its eleventh day today. However, the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government is yet to take a concrete decision on the demands of the agitating teachers.

The teachers have been sitting on strike at the Lower PMG square here demanding fulfilment of a 11–point charter of demands including abolition of the block grant system, equal salary for equal work, salary as per 7th Pay Commission recommendations, provision of full aid, government takeover of all aided schools amongst others.

Earlier, the striking teachers blew conchs amid chanting of priests and worshipped Lord Ganesha at the dharna site on the auspicious occasion of the Puja on Friday.
