Pipili: BJP leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar was attacked with eggs allegedly by some BJD supporters here at the toll plaza while she was on her way to attend a meeting of party workers at Dandamukundpur village in Puri district.
She alleged that that the local goons have attacked her in presence of police. “The local goons have attacked me in police protection.Police must know the attackers and they should be asked. Go to Naveen Niwas and ask the CM that why the women are not safe under his rule in the State”, Samantsinghar told reporters.
Local BJP leaders said many BJD and Congress workers have joined BJP today in the meeting. “The BJD is frightened enough after Amit Shah’s visit. They (BJD supporters) had planned to do such heinous act when they knew that their workers are joining BJP”, a local BJP leader said.
On the other hand, police have started investigation into the incident. “We are investigating the matter. Action will be taken as per law against those involved in the egg attack case”, Pipili IIC said.
Meanwhile, the saffron party termed the incident as 'shame for BJD'. "Shame on you @Naveen_Odisha. Shame on @bjd_odisha . The egg is on your face.. Farce of good governance..have lost moral authority to rule", BJP of Odisha unit tweeted.
Notably, local MLA and Agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy was attacked in a similar way by the BJP activists recently. It is said that Maharathy’s supporters might have pelted eggs at the car of woman leader of the Saffron party.
