Sambalpur: Protesting the transfer order of 14 doctors of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), BJP’s Burla Nagar Unit has given a 12-hour bandh call today.

The bandh call comes on the heels of a government notification ordering transfer of the doctors to Berhampur, Baripada and Koraput.

“BJP is not eyeing any political mileage in the bandh. We are associated with this issue. If the transfer happens, medical services will be affected in VIMSAR,” said BJP’s Burla Nagar Unit president.

“It’s an irony that VIMSAR doesn’t have the required number of doctors. We will continue our protest still government revokes its decision,” said one BJP supporter.

Normal life has been paralysed following the bandh. All the markets and other business houses remain closed while vehicular traffic has come to a standstill in the area.

Earlier, VIMSAR Superintendent had said the doctors were transferred after promotion through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC). However, the Junior Doctor Association (JDA) had alleged that there was already shortage of medicos in VIMSAR and the government’s transfer decision would badly hamper the medical services.
