Bhubaneswar: Raising questions on the modus operandi of the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government in bringing people involved in chit fund case to book, the BJP today targeted BJD's Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya and alleged that the ruling party is trying to shield the culprits for vested interests.

At a press meet at the party headquarters here on Wednesday, the BJP alleged that Acharya has links with the Seashore company, which has duped common people of crores of rupees.

"When Acharya was the Health and Family Welfare Minister, he signed a deal with the Seashore company benefitting the company of crores," said BJP's Padampur MLA Pradeep Purohit.

"At a time when the BJD government should give justice to people,  it is trying to save people who are involved in duping and looting the hard-earned money of around 10 lakh innocent people of the State," said Purohit.

"I want the BJD leaders to answer whether 10 lakh Odias have been looted of Rs 20,000 crore money by chit fund companies or not. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik must answer whether he and his party will stand with these duped people or shield all those looters," the legislator said.

Meanwhile, Acharya, in his defence said the government has got profit from the agreement and no money has been spent by it. “The BJP leaders should make a detailed study of the profit-loss and comment,” he said.
