Bhubaneswar: Demanding restoration of the Bindusagar pond near the Lingaraj Temple here, the BJP today staged Jal Satyagraha in the water body for an hour.

Holding banner and placards, the activists led by party state vice-president Sameer Mohanty staged the protest that began at 10 am. The party demanded steps to make the water body pollution free and restore it immediately.

The party vice-president alleged that a sum of Rs 3.5 crore was given to a Pune-based firm to clean the water body. However, the project has been left half-finished for the reason best known to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the state government, he said.

"We hope that the state government would take steps to restore the water body. If it does not, we would want the government to quit. The BJP would do the needful if it comes to power," said Mohanty.
