Bhubaneswar: A day after the Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana was launched by the Odisha government, the State unit of BJP today slammed the ruling party alleging that BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has mastered the art of copying schemes of other States.
Talking to newsmen here, BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said, “As violence against women in the State has increased in the recent past, the Chief Minister announced the Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana to divert the attention of people.”
“However, questions are being raised about the efficacy of the scheme. The chief minister is either copying schemes of other states or the Centre,” he pointed out.
He further stated, “It would have been better for the women of the State had he (Naveen) announced benefits under the Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana as similar to the ‘Ladli Laxmi Yojana’ launched by the Madhya Pradesh government.”
Taking a jibe at the Chief Minister for remote launching of projects from the State Secretariat, Sharma said, “Is Naveen babu afraid of the opposition which was made against the ruling party leaders in recent past in other parts of Odisha?”
He further questioned, “Does Naveen want to spread the message among his party men that whatever is being done is only because of him? It seems the BJD supremo has lost faith in his party leaders and activists.”
Rejecting the charges, senior BJD leader Prashant Nanda said, “During the past 17 years, the Chief Minister has visited many areas in the State and I believe in the history of Odisha no other Chief Minister would have gone to that much of places. He (Naveen) was meeting people of different parts of the State and is still doing so. However, when there was a schedule for launch of schemes at more than one place, the Chief Minister dedicate them to people from one location only.”
Citing instances of the Mamata Yojana and Harischandra Yojana, Nanda said, “These schemes are our brainchild. Every state plans its development schemes as per the need of its people. But there are chances of some similarities in the schemes.”
