Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP's Mahila Morcha is planning to turn the heat on the State government on rising incidents of crime against women including rape of minor girls by launching a 10-day state-wide campaign - 'Mahila Surakhsya and Samman Yatra' - from May 17.

Alleging inefficiency of Odisha government and police in checking atrocities against women, the Mahila Morcha activists today staged a demonstration in Bhubaneswar.

Holding placards and banners, the party activists staged a demonstration and raised slogans against the State government for its alleged failure in providing security to women in Odisha.

"As the rapists are either supporters or relatives of BJD members, police is being pressurized and prevented from taking proper action. Odisha is not at all safe for women as rapists are roaming scot-free," said BJP Mahila Morcha leader, Prabhati Parida.

On the other hand, senior BJD leader, Amar Satpathy stated that Odisha government is taking concrete steps for the safety and security of women.

"Already rape incidents are being treated as Red Flag cases and investigations done on a fast-track basis. Instead of blaming, one should also consider the situation in other BJP-ruled States, which is worse," said Satpathy.
