Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra was today expelled from the party's Kendrapara district committee by the district party chief Durjyodhana Sahu today.

Sahu told mediapersons, "Mohapatra has been expelled from the district committee as a special invited member. Besides, recommendations have been made to the BJP State chief to expel him from the party."

The move comes after a group of supporters of Mohapatra allegedly created trouble at a party function at Garadpur.

Sahu said, "Mohapatra's supporters shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national chief Amit Shah yesterday. They also thrashed party activists and damaged the stage put up at Garadpur for a 'misran parba'." The trouble makers asked the party activists as to why Mohapatra and his supporters were not invited to the party function, he added.

Meanwhile, in his reaction, Mohapatra stated, "Conspiracy is being hatched to remove me from the party. If the party organisation will be strengthened after my removal, I will be happy."

He further stated State-level leaders are hatching the conspiracy against him.

In Kendrapara, BJP had bagged 10 zilla parishad zones during the rural polls. Of them, some members are supporters of Mohapatra. If any rift forms in the party's district organisation, definitely impact on the party will be negative, said experts.
