Bhubaneswar: In an attempt to reach out to the people over ruling BJD government’s failure, the Odisha unit of BJP kick started its ‘Jana Kalyan Yatra’ on Thursday from Chandahandi area in Nabarangpur district.

BJP state president Basanta Panda inaugurated the yatra.

"The State government has completely failed to take up the issues of the people of Odisha. We will raise these issues and hit the streets in the days to come," Panda said.

Panda took part in the yatra that will move from village to villages to take stock of the problems faced by the people. Besides, he will also make people aware about various centrally sponsored welfare schemes during the yatra which will culminate in Keonjhar on April 24 after covering 17 organisational districts.

Apart from the ‘Jana Kalyan Yatra’, BJP will launch ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ from April 14 which will continue till April 24.

During ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’, BJP will organise ‘Samajik Samarasata programme’ on April 14, 15 and 16. Similarly, the party will arrange ‘Gram Kissan Sabha’ on April 17,18,19 and 20 and ‘Gram Sabha’ on April 22,23 and 24.

Besides, the saffron party will organise an achievement rally on May 26 marking two years of completion of NDA government at the centre.

Meanwhile the ruling has criticised the move.

"No programme of the Narendra Modi government is for welfare of the people. The initiatives he is taking are only meant for the haves and not for the have-nots. These are not for aam-janata," senior BJD leader and former minister Ravi Narayan Nanda stated.
