Bhubaneswar/Bargarh: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday carried out a 'Ganatantra Banchao' padayatra in Bijepur in the wake of the recent cases of violence in the by-poll ready constituency.

The padayatra, after covering several villages in the region, will conclude at Barpali on Wednesday.

Alleging that the BJD is behind the violence in Bijepur, Odisha BJP president Basant Panda said the Naveen led government is trying to win the bypoll by resorting to violence.

"Role of the third floor and the ruling party in the firing at a BJP worker's house can't be ruled out. We demand a CBI probe into the incident," Panda said.

Similarly, leader of BJP legislature party K V Singhdeo said the party is always with people of Bijepur and they need not fear.

However, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the BJP is shedding crocodile tears. "The party which is attacking all the constitutional institutions is now on a 'Ganatantra Banchao' padayatra. It's unfortunate," he said.

BJD spokesperson Sameer Das also hit out at the BJP and said the saffron party should wait till announcement of the bypoll result to understand what people want.
