Aul: The BJP activists on Monday staged a road blockade at Patrapur on Cuttack-Chandbali road demanding Crime Branch probe into the brutal murder of Chitrasena Das, sarpanch of Singiri panchayat and immediate arrest of the accused.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted for more than an hour due to the blockade.

The BJP activists, however, withdrew the blockade after Aul tehsildar and Pattamundai SDPO assured them that the accused would be arrested very soon.

“Police had assured the people that it would arrest the accused within 72 hours. But it has failed to arrest the accused even after six days of the incident. Protesting the failure of the police, we had staged road blockade today. Since people have lost their faith on the police, we demand that the case should be taken up by the Crime Branch for investigation,” Brajasundar Bhuyan, Kendrapada district BJP vice president, told media persons here.

Pattamundai SDPO Kedarnath Sahu said going by the preliminary investigation that the assailants have fled to the neighbouring states after committing the crime, a special police team has been sent to these states to trace them out.

“Apart from this, two more teams have been formed to track down the other associates who are involved in the incident. As regards the demands for Crime Branch investigation, the higher authorities would take a decision in this regard,” he added.

Notably, a group of unidentified miscreants intercepted the bike of Das near Chandiagadi market area while he was on the way to Aul in the morning on June 8, and attacked him with rods and sticks killing him on the spot.
