Bhubaneswar: A delegation of BJP leaders led by Odisha unit vice president Sameer Mohanty today met Governor SC Jamir opposing the appointment of Naba Kumar Nayak as the State Election Commissioner.

The members of the party alleged that the appointment of Nayak has been done to help the state government keeping in view the upcoming urban local body (ULB) elections in 2019. They stated that the decision has been made as per the plans conspired by a Tamil officer.

The BJP delegation further stated that they wanted to apprise the Governor who may not be aware of the BJD's intentions behind choosing the name for  the constitutional post.

Meanwhile, the BJD today met Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar and submitted a memorandum complaining about a Facebook post shared by BJP activist Sadashiv Jena to tarnish the image of the ruling party.

In the letter, they stated that the BJP activist violated the Model Code of Conduct issued by the ECI by posting one video clip in his Facebook account pertaining to campaigning for the BJP party in the ensuing Bijepur bypoll.

"As per rule every campaigning material including video clips has to be approved by the competent electoral authorities. Therefore it clearly violates the Model Code of Conduct issued by Election Commission of India," the letter stated.

Therefore, they demanded immediate action against Jena as per law for violating code of conduct and under cyber law.
