Bhubnaeswar: Odisha BJP today launched an attack on the BJD by criticising Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his lack of knowledge in Odia language.

Addressing a press meet here at the party headquarters, senior BJP leader Biswabhusan Harichandan said, "There is no Chief Minister in the country who does not know the mother tongue and it's a matter of shame for the entire State and Odia people that he can't speak Odia even after staying in power for so many years."

"Such a leader like Naveen has no rights to rule Odia people as CM," he added.

Meanwhile, taking a jibe at Harichandan, BJD vice president and Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout questioned, "If he has such command on Odia language why couldn't he become the CM, why is he even not able to win a MLA seat?”

Naveen Patnaik doesn't know Odia but still people have been choosing him as their leader for long 17 years because they have faith on him. The CM understands the pulse of the people and strives for their development, Rout added.

Similarly, BJD leader Baishnab Parida who is also president of Odisha Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani lashed at CM Naveen saying that his government has blatantly ignored the importance of Odia language and his indifference has led to the downfall of the language. "Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is uninterested in giving adequate attention & is main obstacle in formation of Odisha Language Commission since he himself does not know Odia," Parida said.
