Nimapada/ Nayagarh: The BJP and Congress activists today protested CM Naveen Patnaik's visit to Nimapada and Nayagarh for inauguration of a number of welfare projects.

Some activists of the saffron party were detained by police while showing blag flag to the chief minister at a public rally at PTS ground in Nayagarh. BJP women wing leader and former minister Surama Padhi along with her supporters were taken to preventive custody in the morning in apprehension of trouble. Some Congress leaders were also detained.

Amid protest by the Opposition party activists, Patnaik inaugurated a bridge on Kusumi River, additional class rooms of Chandpur Ramachandi high school. He also laid the foundation stone of some projects.

After addressing a public rally, Naveen said he is glad to visit the district. "Delighted to be in Nayagarh district for a number of welfare projects and schemes for local people", Patnaik said.

Similarly, BJP activists led by Mahila Morcha leader Prabhati Parida opposed CM's visit to Nimapada. The demonstration is to protest against the black stole removal incident in Sundergarh, they said.

The Congress also followed the suit in the civic bodies. The police detained PCC general secretary Biswa Ranjan Mohanty along with his hundreds of supporters while they took out procession from the local party office. The Congress agitators alleged large corruption took place in the construction of all the projects, which are scheduled to be inaugurated by the CM today.
