Bhubaneswar: Alleging BJD of resorting to violence and allegedly attacking BJP workers for showing black flag to chief minister Naveen Patnaik during his Puri visit today, Odisha BJP on Saturday said police are working at the behest of the ruling party to suppress voices being raised against the party.

As per reports, BJD workers allegedly thrashed BJP activists for showing black flags to the chief minister in Puri district when he was on his way to Puri to take stock of the arrangement in the final co-ordination meeting for Rath Yatra. It is also alleged that vice-chairman of Pipili block Judhistir Swain beat the BJP activists up in front of the police.

“We have been telling that BJD is using police as its ‘goondas’ whose only work is to suppress voices and beat people up who raise voice against the Naveen government,” said BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.

However, BJD spokesperson Dibya Shankar Mishra denied the charges of BJP and said BJD workers would never resort to violence. “If anyone from the party is really guilty then we condemn it; police will take appropriate action,” added Mishra.
