Cuttack: Tension ran high after Cuttack Nagar BJP activists clashed with police during a protest in front of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) headquarters on Thursday.

During the scuffle, BJP activists allegedly hurled eggs, tomatoes at the CMC office protesting corruption and tardy progress of the Integrated Sanitation Project undertaken by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

A police official was also injured in stone pelting allegedly by the saffron party activists. However, BJP denied the involvement of their activists in the incident rather blamed ruling-BJD for the violence.

"CMC has failed to provide basic amenities to the people of the city," said BJP leader Nayan Mohanty.

BJP also raised questions on the slow pace of progress of JICA project and accused local MLA Debasish Samantaray of being involved in corruption.

Refuting allegations, Samantaray blamed BJP for resorting to hooliganism in which a Police official was injured.
