Bhubaneswar: A face off ensued between agitating BJP activists and police near the Rabindra Mandap here while the former were trying to barge into the State Secretariat after breaking barricades today.

The saffron party members wanted to meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat and were marching towards to the office building. When they were stopped by police personnel a minor scuffle occurred.

Many leaders of the saffron party were arrested by the police after the face-off.

Earlier in the day, a rally was held by the BJP Krusak Morcha from the party State headquarters demanding a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal for farmers.

Meanwhile, BJD today staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan protesting the Centre’s rejection of the State proposal on hike in paddy MSP. The party is also scheduled to submit a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir addressed to the President of India.

In the memorandum, BJD said the party deplores an act which is completely detrimental to the interest of the farming community. Because of low minimum support price the economy of paddy farmers have been greatly affected.

On the other hand, a delegation of the Congress Kisan Morcha visited the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding hike in paddy MSP.
