Bargarh: In a bid to win back the discontent leaders ahead of the Bijepur bypoll, the BJD today held a meeting in Bargarh with various party activists and leaders of Barpali block and NAC.

According to sources, ministers, MLAs, MPs, district presidents, observers and various senior leaders of the party heard the complaints of local leaders and tried to convince them in the meeting held today.

The meeting also discussed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Barpali on October 21, steps to make party’s ‘Jana Sampark Padayatra’ a success in Bijepur and the strategy to make party candidate Rita Sahu victorious in the bypoll.

BJD is also going to hold such preparatory meetings at Gaisilat block in Padampur tomorrow and at Bijepur block in Sohella on Monday, informed sources.

"CM’s tour to Bargarh district is scheduled on October 21 and various projects will be reviewed in Barpali. Chief Minister will also address a public meeting during his visit," said BJD vice-president, Prasanna Acharya who was present in the meeting.

On the other hand, a team of Congress observers, led by Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das is also going to visit Bargarh tomorrow to assess party’s organizational strengths in the area after its own legislator late Subal Sahu’s wife Rita Sahu joined BJD. Sources said the team has to submit a report on the findings that includes identification of a suitable candidate for the bypoll.

The Congress is yet to announce its candidate for the byelection. OPPC president has said that the names of possible candidates will be sent to party’s high command, where the parliamentary board will take a decision.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) is yet to announce the date of the bypoll as a petition pertaining to irregularities in 2014 Bijepur assembly elections is pending before the Orissa High Court. However, with the hearing concluding on October 12, the EC is likely to take a call on the dates of the bypoll soon, informed sources.
