BJD Women’s Wing stages demonstration over withdrawal of LPG subsidy
Bhubaneswar: Scores of women members of the Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) staged demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here today against the Centre’s decision to withdraw subsidy on LPG cylinders.
Later in the day they submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir addressing the President of India.
“We submitted the memorandum to Governor. We hope that it will be fulfilled and the subsidy provided to poor women will continue and the Centre will withdraw its decision to hike the price of LPG by Rs 4 every month. If it does not happen then the protest will be intensified in all districts, blocks and wards,” said BMJD president Pramila Mallick.
The BMJD has also called for an agitation in front of the office of all district collectors on August 8.
Reacting to the demands of BJD, BJP State Secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar said, “Free of cost LPG connection is being provided to all poor and BPL families across the country. So resource should be generated to cover the expenses. By taking into consideration international prices it was decied that in coming 10 months the price of gas cylinder will be hiked by Rs 40 dividing it to Rs 4 every month. I may also mention that the gas price had been slashed by Rs 41 last month, so why is BJD not able to calculate the hike of Rs 40 in 10 months!”
