Sundergarh: Alleging delay in work on second bridge over Brahmani river, the Sundergarh district unit of BJD today staged a demonstration in Panposh.

More than a thousand activists of BJD led by former legislator Sarada Naik staged the agitation with participation from many women and students.

Naik stated that though during his Rourkela visit in July Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had promised that the second Brahmani bridge work would begin in 15 days, the effect is yet to be seen after 150 days of the bridge foundation stone laying ceremony.

The former legislator further stated, “The Centre, irrespective of the political party in power, has been neglecting Sundergarh when it comes to second Brahmani bridge. Therefore, if the work does not begin at the earliest then stir will be intensified in coming days.”

Negating the charges, BJP state executive member Nihar Ray said, “The second Brahmani bridge work has started since past one month. Instead of levelling baseless charges against the Centre, the agitating BJD activists should ask Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik when the Koel barrage work will take off.”
