Bhubaneswar: Keeping in view the 2018 civic body poll, Odisha Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked the party workers to embark on a ‘Ama Sahara Ama Unnati’ programme to strengthen the party's base in the urban areas.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by BJD MPs and MLAs at the party headquarters here.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister asked the party workers to make the citizens aware of the welfare policies and various developmental activities of the BJD government.
This apart, strategies based on the ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikash’ programme launched on July 1 were also discussed during the meeting.
The focus of the discussion was to make the villagers aware of the negative campaigning by the BJP. In view of this, the party president asked its workers to strengthen its base at the grassroots and reach out to people and solve their problems in a bid to counter the saffron party's campaign 'Mo Booth Sabuthu Majboot'.
Speaking to mediapersons, Patnaik said, "In the urban areas also, we are starting a similar programme 'Ama Sahara Ama Unnati' with similar objectives. By this we shall empower our ward level committees and should give due importance to them while implementing our development and social sector programmes."
