Bhubaneswar: Looking to leverage the reach and increase its presence on social media, the ruling-BJD organised a crash-course for its leaders and office bearers on using popular messaging app WhatsApp.

A workshop was organised at CM and party president Naveen Patnaik’s residence where social media experts imparted necessary training to MLAs and office bearers of the party to make effective use of WhatsApp.

According to sources, the party has prepared a comprehensive strategy to leverage social media and increase its reach and presence. Special groups have been created wherein party leaders will be apprised about various party programs. Moreover, in a bid to connect the public with the party, thousands of groups on WhatsApp will be created at constituency-level. As per party sources, WhatsApp will be used to educate the public about welfare programs as well as for redressal of grievances.

“We are planning to reach out to lakhs of people via WhatsApp. Our elected leaders will have the responsibility to connect to the people starting from ward-level,” said BJD spokesperson, Arun Sahoo.

“Definitely complaints relating to corruption will be raised. It remains to be seen what exemplary action the party takes as it has been preaching zero-tolerance towards corruption,” said Congress MLA, Angshuman Mohanty.

Odisha BJP’s general secretary, Lekhashree Samantsinghar said “We have been reaching out to people on social media and highlighting the negligence and callousness of the State government. Let’s see how far the ruling-party goes on social media to cover-up its failures.”
